What’s your favourite book about gardening?
Today I bought three books about gardens and gardening.
The first one is a very good illustrated book about the most famous and ancient trees of our planet.
The title of the book is (in the italian version) “La magia degli alberi” (“Magical Trees”); his author is Noel Kingsbury and the photos are by Andrea Jones. You can find it on the website of the italian editor Atlante (http://www.atlantelibri.com ).
It’s a very well done book, with six different sections (antichità, ecologia, sacralità, utilità, cibo, ornamento), where trees are classified, described and illustrated, with really great immages.
The second book is very engaging.
It’s dedicated to the life of the gardener and philopher, Jorn de Précy, and it concerns the idea of the author about the wild garden and his property, Greystone, in the Oxfordshire. In Italy, the title of the book is “E il giardino creò l’uomo” , edited by Ponte alle Grazie ( http://www.ponteallegrazie.it ).
The book is really impressive: the author, de Précy, described the destiny of many public gardens with an extraordinary precognition of the future and – with simple and easy reasoning – he explains his personal way and vision of the gardening and the importance of the wild nature for human beings.
The book is a little, short, green philosophical guide, a must have for all modern gardeners.
The third and last book is “I cacciatori di piante” (“The Plant Hunters”), by the author Michael Tyler Whittle, edited, in Italy, by Derive Approdi ( http://www.deriveapprodi.org ): the book collects the story of botanists and explorers of the past during their research of new plants and flowers all around the world, to increase the european markets and botanical gardens.
I hope this book will be able to meet my expectations!
Did you read a book about garden or gardening that impressed you much?
